Bigelow - This town is actually 1/2 of the area once known as N4 R3 West. The other half is Wyman in Franklin County. There were censuses for Bigelow starting in 1880 under the Bigelow name but there didn't seem to be one for 1930.
Dead River Plantation - By 1840 N3 R3 West was called by its new name. The area was unorganized in 1951 and was flooded by a dam.
Carrying Place - This is an area over which Benedict Arnold decided to carry his weapons of war on his way to attack Quebec. Thus, it was called the Carrying Place. If anyone ever actually settled down there they were never counted specifically in what would have been N2 R3 West. Likely, if there was anyone they would have been counted as part of the Plantation below.
Carrying Place Plantation - This is the riverside section of the area over which Benedict Arnold carried his supplies. Its former designation of N1 R3 West switched over to its new name by 1860.

Caratunk - Variously spelled over the years as Carratunk, Carritunk, and Caratunk, it takes it name from the indians. Early on there was an area encompassing many of the areas of Range 2 and Range 1 known as Carrytunk so the two should not be confused. The area now known as Caratunk used to be N1 R3 and acquired its name by 1860. It was settled in 1810 and supposedly established in 1840. However, in 1840 it was listed under Pleasant Pond and Baker Pond and in 1850 censuses were still referring to as plain old N1 R3.
Bald Mountain - Likely if there was anyone living in N2 R3 they were initially enumerated under Caratunk but by 1870 Bald Mountain as an entity was being counted by itself. There seem to be various Bald Mountains in Maine including one out west of Rangeley so don't get confused by this.
