These were some pretty generic names for the areas populated in Somerset County in 1790, 1800 and 1810 (initially part of Kennebec County) which encompassed many of the towns later enumerated on their own.
The Carrytunk one was taken in 1790 and 1800 and was for north Embden, parts of Solon, Bingham, and Moscow. Other parts of Embden were included in Titcomb or the 7 Mile Brook Settlement.
The 7 Mile Brook is now called the Carrabassett River. In 1790 there was a distinction between the 7 Mile Brook census and the one called "Between Norridgewock and 7 Mile Brook". The one called 7 Mile Brook was for those people settled along the Brook [southwestern parts of Embden, northwestern parts of Anson] whereas the other was probably for the rest of Anson not included in Titcomb. Presumably it was also for people in Madison but I am not certain. By 1800 only the census for 7 Mile Brook existed as Anson had its own census (but not Madison!).
The Million Acres must refer to the Bingham Purchase which wasnorth of Embden. That census existed in 1800 and 1810. Seems to me the Million Acres census would have taken care of some of the settlements of Carrytunk but maybe these were just "the rest".
Carrytunk
Between Norridgewock and 7 Mile Brook
7 Mile Brook
Million Acres
I included these initially with the assumption that people to the north probably came up the Kennebec River from these towns. To some extent that was true but soon after I made boundaries to this project I stopped including them.
Anson
Madison
This town was included only when it was called West Portland in 1800.
Freeman
The 1840 census for this was done but probably only because it contained someone who migrated from my target area.
